How do you recognize that you have a problem with your drinking? When is it plain to see that you are engaging in abusive drinking?

If you have ineffectively struggled to discontinue your drinking or if you promised yourself that your drinking days are behind you and then you realized that you were drinking in an abusive way just a few days later, the odds are extremely good that you have drinking problems. The point of emphasis is that if you have attempted to quit drinking and cannot get this done, then your drinking is controlling you, instead of the other way around.

In much the same way, if it takes larger amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” more likely than not you need to become aware that you have a problem with your drinking.

You may be telling yourself that the rationale for your drinking is so that you can lessen your tension or get rid of the pain or depression that you feel. Likewise, you may be trying to stay away from a negative situation and may be looking for something more beneficial, more helpful, or less regretful.

As you keep on drinking, nonetheless, you will comprehend that drinking does not produce the same high and you will also realize that drinking doesn’t help remove whatever triggered your discomfort in the first place. You may also notice that the more excessively you drink, the more depressed you feel.

As you continue to drink in an excessive way, unfortunately, you may become addicted to alcohol and, as a result, you may add another critical problem to cope with rather than uncovering more effective and wholesome ways of coping with your alcohol generated problems.

An Alcohol Assessment is Probably Warranted

If you have concluded that you have a drinking problem, maybe the best thing you can do for yourself is to call your physician or healthcare practitioner and arrange for an appointment for a complete physical and for a review of your drinking situation.

If you beyond a doubt think that you have a dangerous drinking problem, it might be a good idea to get prepared to find out that you need to get alcohol reahbilitation.

At this point in your life, what are your choices? You can certainly refuse to see your doctor and continue your pattern of abusive drinking.

It definitely doesn’t take a mastermind, however, to understand that long-term, abusive drinking, if left untreated, will worsen over time and quite possibly set in motion an early death. As a result, your most beneficial choice is to confront your drinking situation and obtain the alcohol therapy you need.

The Facade of the Functioning Alcohol Addicted Individual

It is somewhat odd to note the fact that multitudes of alcohol dependent individuals lead busy and active lives and have houses, pets, families, vehicles, jobs, and any number of material possessions just like individuals who are not alcohol dependent.

Many of these “functional” alcohol dependent people may have never been apprehended for drunk driving and may have been lucky enough to avoid all alcohol-related legal issues. In spite of this fortunate circumstance, conversely, these alcohol dependent people need to drink in order to operate on a daily basis while keeping up their facade as they associate with people outside their family.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are engaging in one of their drinking binges or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcohol dependency, nevertheless, and they will be quick to affirm the authenticity of the drinker’s situation and the facts about the alcohol dependent individual’s drinking predicament and about his or her alcohol produced issues.

Why Do Alcohol Addicted People Fail to Address Their Drinking Problems?

As alcohol addiction research and statistics on alcohol abuse have stressed, no matter how apparent the alcohol-related difficulties seem to those who interact with the alcoholic, alcohol dependent people often deny that drinking is the basis of their alcohol induced issues. Not only this, but alcohol dependent people commonly blame their alcohol-related predicaments on other people or upon other circumstances that surround them rather than seeing their part in the problem.

The origin of the difficulty is that alcoholism is a disease of the brain. Once the person has become dependent on alcohol, he or she normally resorts to denial, manipulation, and lying as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make things more complex, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms regularly counteracts the alcohol dependent individual’s rare attempts to abruptly abstain from drinking. As gloomy as the alcoholic’s life is, then again, the encouraging news is that competent help is widely accessible – if the alcohol addicted individual reaches out and seeks alcohol rehab.

Summary

Admitting the fact that drinking is eliciting difficulties in your day by day functioning is conceivably the most trouble-free way to determine if you have a problem with your drinking. More to the point, if your drinking is eliciting problems with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the law, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be tackled.

I met my wife to be on the road when we were both stopped in the traffic light near central London. What made us notice eachother is that we both had the same Alfa Romeo cars. Only the colour was different, mine was white and her’s was blue. We looked and both smiled at each other. At that moment my heart beat 100mph because in young terms I thought “She is hot!”. We both shared few smiles after that and the red light just didn’t turn green.

I was driving with my friends as we were driving to Covent Garden as the weather was outstandingly warm. The 2007 summer was brilliant in the UK and that day I was planning to make the most of the sun as I had a long week at work. It was all planned out, park the car in the hotel nearby and go to few bars havefew drinks and then catch the night bus back to the apartment. I can always go back to the hotel next day and get the car but that wasn’t to happen as from the traffic light I asked her to take the first left and park as I wanted to talk to her.

I wasn’t expecting her to do so but then after the green light she over took me and turned left I was shocked but I got my chance to talk to her. We had normal hellos and stuff little ice breaker from me to calm the nerves and I was about to ask her out then suddenly she asked “What are you doing this evening?”? I was shocked for few seconds then I replied nothing in front of my friends. We exchanged numbers and met up in the evening, spent few hours wining and dining then I went back to see my friends, now after 3 years the girl from the traffic lights and me are engaged.

It was just bound to happen I guess because we have so much in common. We are competitors in our professional field as we both work for used cars company. If she told me that on the traffic light I would have just turned right. We adore cars, food, sports and are big fans of Honda cars. We plan to get married next year so wish us all the best please.

It’s almost miraculous that men and women can get along at all, much less live together. They are so different, it sometimes seems like there is nothing they can agree on.

Producers of TV shows understand these differences well and are very adept at making shows that both men and women can enjoy. They create characters who have personality traits that appeal to men and other traits that appeal to women. While a man might admire a leading man for his bravery, a woman may be looking at his vulnerable characteristics. In many ways, when men and women are watching the same show, they are reacting to very different dimensions of it.

In their daily lives, however, it’s not as simple as that. Often it’s a matter of give and take. Men have to tolerate women’s quirks and women have to tolerate those of men. For example, there aren’t many men who are overjoyed to see an expensive new vase on the living room shelf. Home decor accents just don’t do much for most men.

Women often shake their heads in bewilderment when their husbands go out and buy a homelite chainsaw just because one branch of a tree needs cutting. They’ll use the saw once and then it will sit in the garage for years. What women don’t understand is that the man has been dying to work with a chainsaw and can’t resist the opportunity when it comes.

It’s all pretty funny when you stop and think about it and is probably one of the reasons why men and women need each other. Wouldn’t life be boring if couples agreed on everything. Variety is the spice of life and the differences between men and women are complementary, not antagonistic.

Of course, there are many areas in which men and women are in complete agreement. An outdoor loving couple will readily agree on buying a Schwinn mountain bike, for instance. Their matching bikes afford them the opportunity to explore the great outdoors together.

They may like different aspects of a bike ride on a bumpy mountain track, but they enjoy the trip together nonetheless. While the man might race at breakneck speed on the downhill slopes, the woman might stop to pick a flower and put it in her hair. At the end of the day, though, they sit down together and share their adventures together.

Then there’s the fact that all men have a bit of the feminine in them and women have some of the male. Another couple who goes on a mountain bike ride together may have a different experience. The woman might be the one who loves speed while the man enjoys taking photographs. These differences are what add richness to life’s experiences.

Barry used to boast to his drinking pals how he could keep a forty hour per week job and get drunk as a skunk nearly every night. Regrettably, after maintaining this “party” lifestyle for roughly two-and-a-half years, he started to have different alcohol related issues.

Barry Starts to Observe Numerous Alcohol Related Issues

For example, he had a very hard time getting up for work because he felt so exhausted when he got up. Moreover, virtually every morning Barry suffered from an awful hangover. It was apparent that the mixture of his hangovers and his lack of energy did not make it easy for him to get up and feel energized to go to work. To make matters worse, about a week ago he got his third driving under the influence arrest in the past thirteen weeks.

To complicate things further, at his job his last two work evaluations were less than adequate. And lastly, his five-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had gone downhill due to his depression, lack of patience, angry outbursts, and his financial difficulties.

Although Barry was only twenty-eight years old, he frankly began to look like he was in his late thirties. Regrettably, this is what irresponsible and excessive drinking can do to an individual. And in truth he comprehended that he was suffering from the negative effects of alcoholism or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to waste his life on excessive and hazardous drinking. So at first he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Regrettably, he soon grasped the fact that he lost his self control after consuming his first drink. More to the point, after his first drink he invariably proceeded to get inebriated. Due to the fact that this was a circumstance that was repeated again and again, this greatly worried him. In actual fact, he began to wonder if he was exhibiting some of the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse.

Barry Makes up His Mind To Make an Appointment to See His Physician

After discussing his excessive alcohol consumption and his abusive and unhealthy drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually decided to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare professional. When Barry saw his healthcare professional, he openly stated that he has been abusing alcohol, that he may be exhibiting alcoholic signs, that he wants to refrain from drinking. He then mentioned that drinking responsibly and in moderation doesn’t work for him and, as a consequence, he wants to learn how he can live an alcohol-free life.

Barry also told his physician about his depression and how this mental health issue was negatively affecting his relationship with his girlfriend. His physician referred Barry to Doctor Harmon, a drug and alcohol addiction psychologist, who persuaded Barry to enroll in an alcohol and drug rehab center as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol rehab. Fortunately, Barry would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this treatment facility.

Refraining From Drinking Was the Best Decision Barry Had Ever Made

After five months of comprehensive rehab, Barry left the in-patient treatment center and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient counseling. Inspired to change his life in a healthier manner, Barry went to a health store and bought some vitamins and a cookbook. He then joined a gym and began working out three or four times per week. Within six months Barry was a new person. He wasn’t depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he now looked younger than he was, and most significant of all, he remained sober for several months. He also didn’t resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more compassionate person in his relationship with his girlfriend. In brief, quitting drinking was the best decision Barry had ever made.

I work with more than a few young guys who work in construction who manifest irresponsible and hazardous drinking. After working exceptionally hard for eight or more hours, it seems to make a lot of sense to go to the local drinking establishment to have a few drinks with one’s drinking friends. Frequently, however, it seems that the well-intentioned few beers turns into a predicament in which a lot of beers are consumed, several dollars are spent, and quite a few hours are spent at the local drinking establishment rather than spending time with their friends, wife or girlfriend, or with their family.

Abusive Drinking Can Lead to Marital, Friendship, and Relationship Problems

Is it all that astonishing in these situations that a lot of these hard working guys experience alcohol related financial difficulties in spite of the fact that they make an exceptionally good wage? How rough can it be for my hard working pals to comprehend that excessive and hazardous drinking commonly results in marital, communication, friendship, commitment, and relationship issues and often leads to sexuality problems and affairs? Why are these alcohol abuse and alcoholic signs so difficult for these hard working guys to see?

Excessive and Hazardous Drinking Can Lead to DWIs, Work Problems, Numerous Health Problems, and a Variety of Mental Health Problems Like Depression

Should it actually be surprising to anyone that these hard working guys could receive a DWI almost any day or night of the week? Is anyone sincerity astonished when my hard working buddies begin to show up late for work due to their irresponsible and abusive drinking? Is anybody actually all that amazed that several of these hard working guys need to enhance their stress management, time management, and their anger management skills?

Does it in point of fact surprise anyone to know that these hard working men eventually complain about alcohol-related health problems such as hangovers, alcohol poisoning, a loss of energy, and sleep disturbances? Should it honestly be flabbergasting to anyone that several of these hard working guys smoke excessively and need to quit smoking? Should it really be shocking to anyone that my hard working pals need to reinforce their family and parenting skills?

Is anybody really all that amazed that many of my hard working buddies need to rise above their grief and loss concerning more than a few ruined friendships and relationships? Is it honestly unexpected that many of these hard working guys are starting to have different mental health problems such as depression? Why can’t my hard working friends “see” these alcohol effects on the body and on the mind?

To a relatively great extent, these hard working guys have gotten into a rut that is leading them to a life of alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction. My wish is that my hard working buddies will ultimately see that excessive and abusive drinking is not healthy and that they need to talk to their healthcare professional or somebody at the local drug and alcohol rehab clinic about their drinking circumstances.

Concerning the problem drinking manifested by my hard working buddies, the main idea is that honesty is necessary. Indeed, these construction workers, not that much different than others who engage in hazardous and heavy drinking, need to look at their actions and make a truthful assessment of what excessive and abusive drinking is doing to their mental health, to their health, to their relationships, to their finances, and to their jobs. In a word, my hard working friends need to understand the alcohol short term effects of their hazardous and abusive drinking.

There’s Room For Hope If Those Who Engage in Careless and Excessive Drinking Can Become Motivated to Get the Alcohol Treatment and Alcohol Detox They Need

These construction workers need to get motivated and enthused about wanting to make a healthy change in their lives. More to the point, my hard working pals need to motivate themselves to go to their healthcare practitioner or to the local drug and alcohol counseling clinic and find out if they are basically abusing alcohol or if they are alcohol addicted. Based on the information that is unveiled, my hard working pals then need to get the alcohol detox treatment and the alcohol rehabilitation they need.

The great news is that there’s a wide variety of drug and alcohol treatment clinics, rehab programs, treatment centers, hospitals, and rehabilitation facilities where these hard working guys can get top-of-the-line therapy for their excessive drinking. And with some exertion, it’s even possible to find rehab programs, drug and alcohol treatment clinics, rehabilitation facilities, treatment centers, and hospitals that are cost effective.
